We're looking for a Director

I’ve created a one-woman show called Chasing.
It’s part comedy, part confession, and part truth-telling about what it feels like to be a woman who’s done everything “right”… and wonders why it still doesn’t feel like enough.
After developing the script (with a professional actor and scriptwriter) and shaping the experience in a read-through, I’m now looking for a Director to collaborate with me as we move into rehersals and a Private Preview in the fall. There will be opportunities to take it beyond the performance phase in the fall 2026 and then on tour in Canada.
About the Role
We're looking for a Director who can help bring this show to life in a way that feels clear, intentional, and impactful.
This solo show blends storytelling, character work, and audience interaction. It needs someone who understands pacing, emotional beats, and how to shape a strong arc from beginning to end.
Diane is new to theatre, but is comfortable on stage, having been a professional speaker for 15 years, and is now pivoting to theatre. She has done stand-up, emcee work and led trainings and events. She's brining her business experience to the theatre industry, is a fast learner and values the support of someone who will help her shine in the role.
The director will work closely with Diane as writer/performer to:
- Direct character development and differentiation across multiple characters
- Shape comedy, timing, pacing and emotional arc
- Guide physicality, movement and use of the performance space
- Develop and refine audience interaction
- Shape transitions and theatrical moments
- Provide a strong directorial perspective and constructive feedback
- Contribute to script development and refinement through the rehearsal process
- Help shape the overall staging and audience experience
- Lead rehearsals, including more concentrated rehearsal periods around key production milestones
We’re especially interested in a director with:
- Experience directing theatre and an interest in developing new work
- Experience with or a strong understanding of solo performance and character-driven theatre
- Strong instincts for comedy, comedic timing and pacing
- Experience with physical storytelling, movement and audience interaction
- Comfort collaborating directly with a writer/performer
- The confidence to offer constructive feedback, bring a clear directorial point of view and challenge the work when needed
- A collaborative, creative approach
- The ability to travel easily to North Vancouver for rehearsals
Experience in every area is not required. We’re looking for the right creative fit and someone excited about helping develop an original production.
Eligibility: Priority given to female directors based on the nature of the content, and must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident
About the Production
Chasing is a one-woman show that blends comedy, storytelling, and character work to challenge the cultural obsession with achievement, productivity, and perfection.
Through humour, vulnerability, and theatrical storytelling, it invites audiences into the messy, often hilarious reality of chasing success while quietly wondering why it never feels like enough.
I want the show to provoke. To make people laugh, squirm, recognize themselves, and question the voices they've been obeying for years. It's an invitation to stop chasing worth and start redefining what enough truly means.
The goal isn't just to entertain—it's to leave audiences thinking long after they've left the theatre.
